Event Details
All courses are hands-on* and taught by Stephen McDaniel, author of "Rapid Graphs with Tableau" and "SAS for Dummies".
“Rapid Graphs with Tableau Software” is offered on days one and two followed by "Data Exploration and Effective Dashboards with Tableau" on days three and four. Courses can be taken separately or as a discounted package. At the conclusion of the fourth day, the Tableau certification exam will be administered, which is based on content from both courses.
Rapid Graphs with Tableau
This 1-day introductory course covers the principles of using Tableau to create simple graphs and tables to improve the speed and quality of business decisions. Topics include thinking analytically, understanding different data types, effective business table and graph design, data access, the power of Show Me!, dynamic view interaction and navigation, filtering, sorting, brushing, marks, quick table calculations and sharing your work.
Each attendee will receive two books, “Rapid Graphs with Tableau Software” by Stephen McDaniel and “Show Me the Numbers: Designing Tables and Graphs to Enlighten” by Stephen Few.
Data Exploration and Effective Dashboards with Tableau
This 2-day advanced course covers data exploration, data management and effective dashboard creation with Tableau. Data exploration and management topics include understanding common data relationships and the best methods to explore them, visual perception of data, using Tableau with multiple analytic needs (e.g., correlations, time-based data, ranking, distribution analysis, multi-variable profiles, and mapping), data navigation, and advanced data management. Dashboard topics include design principles and best practices, common mistakes, layout, interaction features and testing.
Each attendee will receive two books, “Rapid Graphs with Tableau Software” by Stephen McDaniel and “Now You See It: Simple Visualization Techniques for Quantitative Analysis” by Stephen Few.
* All courses are a combination of lecture, Q&A and hands-on use of Tableau. In order to participate in the hands-on portion of the class, each attendee must bring their own laptop with Tableau 5 already installed. If you don't already have a Tableau license, there is a 14-day trial period license available at www.Freakalytics.com/RapidGraphs. No laptops or PC's are available from Freakalytics during the course. Tables, work areas and power strips for your laptop will be provided in the class. The instructor is unable to provide installation assistance or installation problem resolution during class to ensure that class time is spent on instruction for all attendees.
